Magtutudlo Carl Jackson’s Path of Dedication and Triumph in De Campo 1-2-3 Original
Carl Jackson’s journey in De Campo began in December 2020. Starting solo with the online course, he dedicated himself to training independently for four months before committing to weekly one-on-one sessions with Maestro Paolo in April 2021. From the outset, Carl demonstrated patience, determination, and a clear passion for the art. Though he humorously admitted to having “two left feet” and expecting challenges with De Campo footwork, his steady progress proved otherwise. With unwavering focus, he refined his skills week after week.
By August 20, 2022, after a year and a half of dedicated training, Carl was ready to take his Magtutudlo test. In front of a panel of instructors, students, and Master Jomalin Caballero, he confidently demonstrated the Elementary, High School, and College levels of De Campo. His performance reflected not only his technical proficiency but his deep understanding of the art’s core principles.
In Filipino culture, it is customary to address someone with “Sir” as a gesture of respect, regardless of rank or status. Thus, we often refer to Carl as Sir Carl, reflecting the mutual respect embedded in the practice.
In August 2023, Sir Carl’s hard work paid off in a spectacular way. Competing in the 2023 GSBA European Championships, he emerged as a Double European Champion, winning 2 Golds and 2 Silvers after three intense days of competition. His ability to execute a staggering 12 disarms, including 3 TKOs, showcased his mastery of De Campo’s disarming techniques, particularly those from Group 4, targeting the inner wrist and knuckles. In his own words, “Opponents thought they were just dropping the stick—they weren’t.” His precision and control in disarming techniques were no fluke but the result of years of dedicated practice and refinement under Maestro Paolo’s guidance.
Fast forward to August 2024, and Sir Carl once again demonstrated his prowess in the full-contact stick fighting competition in Poland, where he secured the British, European, and World titles. His victory was marked by another impressive performance, securing 11 disarms and 3 TKOs. Reflecting on his performance, Carl shared how instinctively he fought, applying his extensive training in De Campo’s principles, particularly focusing on disarms, which became a hallmark of his fighting style.
Sir Carl’s achievements are not just a personal triumph—they are a testament to the effectiveness of De Campo 1-2-3 Original. His consistent, disciplined approach to training has set a new standard for his students and peers alike. Through his humility, determination, and deep connection to the art, Sir Carl continues to inspire others on their own De Campo journeys.
As Magtutudlo, Carl Jackson is qualified to teach the full De Campo curriculum, from Elementary to College, and is authorized to promote students up to Level VII Hanas. His success is a shining example of how De Campo’s timeless principles can be applied both in self-defense and in competitive environments.
Congratulations, Sir Carl, on your continued excellence and dedication to De Campo. Your victories reflect not only your skill but your unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting the art of Jose Caballero.
Pugay!
